CSGI was founded in December 1993 and since then it is under the supervision and control of the Italian Ministry for University and Scientific Research (MIUR). Its members leverage the complementary expertise, skills, and instrumental/technical capabilities of the network to jointly perform high-profile research in several areas, related to CSGI core scientific topics. The headquarters are hosted at the University of Florence (UNIFI).
For the BOW project, CSGI will employ the know-how, facilities and equipment of the working group Biomimetic and Biogenic Soft Matter, which teams the Biogenic Colloids Surfaces and Interfaces (BioCSI) lab headed by the PI at the Dept. of Molecular and Translational Medicine, University of Brescia (one of the 10 Departments of Excellence for Molecular Medicine in Italy) and the Soft Matter and Nano Systems (SANS) lab headed by Debora Berti at the Dept. of Chemistry Ugo Schiff, University of Florence (one of the 11 Departments of Excellence for Chemistry in Italy).
