The 37th Conference of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS 2023) has officially kicked off in the picturesque city of Naples. Running from September 3rd to 8th, 2023, this event has attracted the finest minds in the field of colloid and interface science from around the globe. Organized by the University of Naples Federico II and the CSGI (Consorzio Interuniversitario per lo Sviluppo dei Sistemi a Grande Interfase), this conference promises to be an intellectual extravaganza.

The conference, held at the Stazione Marittima, nestled close to the historic Maschio Angioino Castle, brings together participants with diverse backgrounds, ranging from chemistry to physics, and from biology to engineering. The event is held under the auspices of ECIS, a renowned platform for interdisciplinary research in the field.

Exploring the Realm of Colloid and Interface Science

ECIS 2023 boasts an impressive scientific program that includes plenary and keynote invited lectures, oral presentations, and a comprehensive poster session. With four parallel sessions, attendees will be spoilt for choice when it comes to enriching their knowledge and networking with experts in the field.

The topics to be discussed at the conference span a wide spectrum, encompassing:

  1. Amphiphiles and Self-Assembly
  2. Bio-interfaces, Drug Delivery, and Nanomedicine
  3. Colloids for Analytics
  4. Cultural Heritage and Environment
  5. Emulsions and Foams
  6. Energy and Photonics
  7. Food Science and Technology
  8. Nanoparticles, Nanocomposites, Nano-and Micro-Structured (Bio)Materials
  9. Polymers, Polyelectrolytes, Gels, Liquid Crystals, and Anisotropic Fluids
  10. Rheology and Phase Behavior of Colloids and Complex Fluids
  11. Surface Forces and Thin Films
  12. Theory, Modelling and Simulation of Colloidal Systems
  13. Wetting and Capillarity

Spotlight on Key Presentations

The conference has already seen several remarkable presentations, with researchers from BOW-CGI making significant contributions. Here are some standout presentations:

  • On September 4th, 11:05 AM to 11:25 AM, in Room Galatea:

Costanza Montis delivered an oral presentation on “Self-assembled lipid-nanoparticle hybrids to build up biocompatible functional materials”.

  • On September 7th, Room Dione/Elettra:

Debora Berti will delve into the intriguing topic of “Interaction of inorganic nanoparticles and biomimetic lipid interfaces: understanding clustering and morphology” from 3:20 PM to 3:40 PM.

  • On September 8th, 11:05 AM to 11:25 AM, in Room Galatea:

Lucrezia Caselli will present her research on how “Peptide coating boosts membrane interactions and antimicrobial effects of photocatalytic nanoparticles”.

These presentations have sparked discussions and debates, pushing the boundaries of knowledge in colloid and interface science.
